Spring/Summer 2012 will be dominated by metallic colours and unusual textures, they illuminated the catwalk and have already been reworked into more wearable styles by the High Street. Notably, Givenchy took metallic to another level and showed full glitter ensembles. Luminescent brocade was moulded into ladylike tailored shapes by Louis Vuitton and was paired with smooth silver accessories.
An easier way to translate this trend is through make up, use Chanel as inspiration. Yesterday, at Paris Fashion Week, the fashion superhouse sent models down the catwalk with beautifully jewelled sculptural eyebrows.
I will be wearing this bejewelled look on my nails, which will really pop against the pretty pastels that are currently flooding the fashion world. Due to advances in technology, it is possible to create amazing textures and effects using varnishes. Here are some combinations that you must try...
Metallic Brocade
Apply a silver base colour such as Space Odyssey, £14 NARS.
Use Trafalgar Square Magnetic Polish, £13 Nails Inc, to reveal portions of the base colour. Using two metallic varnishes creates a multi dimensional brocade effect.
Rough Diamond
This amazing Sloane Square 3D Glitter Polish, £11 Nails Inc, knocks all other glitters out of the water. Unlike most other effects polishes, Sloane Square has an extremely high density of colour and so covers the nail entirely in one coat.
To push this trend even further, layer with one coat of Happy Birthday Nail Lacquer, £16 Deborah Lippmann.
