Pump it up!

Making the most of the sad fact that I will not be going on holiday to a tropical in the immediate future, I have decided to shun the summer beach hair trends that insist on trying to perfect every year and, instead, focus on the perfect blowdry...

With volume, follow the lead of blowdry perfectionists Olivia Palermo and Kate Middleton, avoid an American pageant finish by going easy on the hairspray!

Perfect Blowdry Guide

1. Wash your hair with a good quality shampoo and conditioner, Aveda Shampure Shampoo and Conditioner is a great range for all hair types.

2. Smooth a heat protection balm through hair, concentrating on ends. Heat reduces the protein in hair, thinning it and making it look less healthy, I would recommend a balm such as Aveda Damage Remedy Daily Hair Repair.

3. Use a hairdryer (without a nozzle) to roughly dry hair all over, do not flip your head over as this only creates width not height.

4. Using hair sectioning clips, split the hair into four horizontal layers (you may want to split into five layers depending on thickness) leaving the layer closest to your neck free.

5. Use a large barrel hairbrush, lift hair in small sections from the roots towards the sky using a hairdryer with a nozzle to smooth. Continue this across the bottom section, moving onto the sections towards the top of the head.

6. Finish using a light holding spray such as Kerastase Age Premium Laque Substantive Fishing Spray. Use very little to avoid making the hair heavy and dulling natural shine.

7. Shake it out, bounce and shine!
